Ribbleshead ViaductPosted by Alan (Southampton, United Kingdom) on 14 January 2009 in Landscape & Rural. The classic view of the fabulous viaduct on the the Settle & Carlisle Railwa. It was built by some 2000 navvies working for the Midland Railway in 1875. It's now a Grade II Listed Building and is a Scheduled Ancient Monument. Somehow it seems to complement with the wildness of the landscape in the area rather than detract from it. The bulk of Whernside with its hostile winter climate is lost under the cloud.
